Teaching English to Adult Students in Japan
Teaching adult students gives me the opportunity to meet Japanese people from a diverse range of backgrounds whom I would probably not be able to meet on my own. In the lessons, I’ve experienced Japanese culture and also Japanese people’s unique personalities.
The most important thing to keep in mind when you teach adults is just to be yourself. Don’t be afraid to be yourself with your students, it is OK to talk about your life and hobbies while asking about theirs. I’ve noticed that Japanese students want to relax and enjoy an global atmosphere.
Now, for almost 1 month we’ve enjoyed talking about different cultures and stereotype Japanese attitudes compared with people from other countries.
Teaching English is more than reading a book in front of students or teaching grammars. Teaching is about guiding your adult students to become the best versions of themselves by letting them express their thoughts freely. Sometimes I use my knowledge about Forensic Science so that they will also learn a new word like scientific words.

夏休み特別企画、英語でHip Hop Dance クラス、お楽しみに!!
Hello,
Once again I’m Tracy Francis.
I love dancing. I started dancing when I was in elementary school. I used to dance with my twin sister and we joined a lot of competitions in the Philippines. I’m good at Hip-hop dance and wacky dance. I was also a dance instructor back in the Philippines. I taught cheer dance and Hip-hop dance in University of Baguio. My twin sister and I have performed a dance in a TV show in the Philippines called NAIMBAG NGA MORNING KAPAMILYA.
I am so thrilled to have a chance to teach dance & English at Planet Kids / Academy. I am happy to teach Hip Hop in English to both adults and children.

Here’s her initial message:
先生から皆様へメッセージです!
Hello,
My name is Tracy Francis. I’m from Philippines and I grew up in Baguio City. Baguio name as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” is one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country. Baguio is one of the most visited tourist destination in Asia. Situated in the mountains of the Cordillera Region. Baguio is the place where you will enjoy the cool climate all year round. Baguio is made for sightseeing because of the attractive and lovely scenic views and a number of magnificent tourist attractions. Baguio is a perfect place to unwind yourself and is a perfect mountain retreat.
In the Philippines we have a different Language per city but the two most common languages were Tagalog and English.
In Japan I’d like to visit many famous places. I’ve noticed that the people here are kind and helpful, so I feel like I’m home even though I’m far away from my city. Also, the weather is the same.
I love dancing and teaching.
メッセージの最後にもありますが、フランシス先生はヒップホップダンスが得意で、本国フィリピンでは、チームダンスのリーダー兼振付師としてダンス大会に出場し、数々の賞に輝いた実績があります。
当スクールでも、英語でヒップホップ! クラスを夏休みに開催することを企画中です!
次回のブログではヒップホップダンスのキャリアについて本人に語ってもらいますのでお楽しみに!!

Language is an art. It evolves all the time. Scholars and dictionaries must keep up. The Internet has become the strongest and the number one source of new words in this generation. It has spawned a new crop of words of stuff and the combinations of words are clever.
Many of the new words are from urbandictionary.com, which is basically a dictionary of modern slang. This site is probably the most complete dictionary of modern slang.
Most of the words are portmanteaus. It’s what you get when you mash both the sounds and meanings of two words together to get a new one. Did you know, for example, that the word ‘smog’ is a portmanteau (smoke and fog)? ‘Brunch’ (breakfast and lunch) is another one that is becoming more and more popular, although it’s been around for a while.
Aside from the examples given above, there are much more words that you may find interesting and useful at times. Why don’t you check the following pictures with the new words and their meanings. Click the images below.
